Italian Meringue Buttercream

I started a side business making cupcakes about a year ago when I needed to raise money to go on a mission trip. Through trial and error I have found my most favorite cake frosting, and that is Italian Meringue Buttercream. It is light, not too sweet, and has a satisfying creamy texture.

This is my favorite frosting because it is the most fail-proof recipe yet. It is easy to frost with and holds its shape well. Some could argue that it takes a longer time to prepare than the typical buttercream frosting but I think it’s less messy and you can get a more satisfying result. The texture is smooth and creamy throughout. If you set the cake on the counter the frosting wont harden and as an added bonus it will help keep your cake moist. You can easily incorporate fresh berries, peanut butter or melted chocolate to change to flavor of the frosting.

A couple of my favorite cake frosting combinations are: Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, lemon cake with strawberry frosting, and cinnamon cake with maple frosting.
